Call me crazy, but I actually enjoy summertime in New York. While the masses flee to the beach, those who stay behind get to enjoy shorter brunch wait times, street fairs, and seeing their street lit up by the setting sun during what I call “magic hour”. Below are some more ideas on how to spend your summer in NYC.
Kayak at Brooklyn Bridge Park
At the Pier 2 Boathouse, Brooklyn Bridge Park offers FREE kayaking on the East River, guaranteed to make you feel in awe of the skyscrapers across the way in Manhattan. Click here for details.
Attend A Performance
Summer is the season for concerts on the grass and outdoor arts shows. I recently attended a performance of Shakespeare’s Richard III in Brooklyn’s Carroll Park (click here for more performance dates, this is its last week!). Others worth checking out:
Catch An Outdoor Movie
Whether it’s in a park or on a rooftop, make it a point to enjoy an evening with a movie under the stars. The Gothamist has a great guide to outdoor movies for summer 2017 here.
Drink & Dine On A Boat
Summer wouldn’t be complete without a day on the water with a drink in your hand. My favorite boat is the North River Lobster Co., which offers awesome views of Manhattan’s west side. For more options check out this guide.
